Bio

Florica Vlad is interested in visual media, web theory and community organization. A graduate of the Film and Television Department at the Tisch School of the Arts, NYU, with a minor in Journalism and Communications, Florica has written and directed her own short films and has collaborated with media theorist and writer Douglas Rushkoff on a promotional film for his book, Life Inc. In addition to her work in film, Florica has created interactive physical projects. Having completed her graduate studies in the Interactive Telecommunications Program at the Tisch School of the Arts, NYU Florica gained exposure to physical computing, new media arts and design. The Pianocktail, an interactive cocktail-making piano, she built with Oscar Torres, was featured in MAKE Magazine’s Best In Show category at the Interactive Telecommunications Program Winter Show. Florica was introduced to community building, public outreach and open-source advocacy while working with the New York collective ShiftSpace, based on an open-source meta-web platform allowing users to annotate, remix, shift and share any webpage, anywhere. Since then, she has remained immersed in outreach and communications and her love for writing and community building has led her to create SFblotter, a curated online magazine of interesting events in the Bay Area.
